Subtleties
Bary Birm and Jennifer Borders
In the Studios@ Gallery
February 2026
Bary Birm and Jennifer Borders show together for the first time in this exhibit titled Subtleties.
Borders is a sculptor currently experimenting with ideas of the body. The plaster casts reveal intimate creases and folds of the skin. Some of the plaster pieces are hung suspended with red rope, and some are attached to wire sculptures resembling line drawings. Borders describes them as “corporeal.”
Birm is an abstract painter working from a history of expressionism. Vibrant, concentrated washes of color layer on top each other, and mix with sparks of iridescence. The lightweight works are on hand-cut paper, with all varying edges full of curves and notches, hovering just off the wall.
